Select from the following research we’ve done to assist our students:
Data Science Career Research
Compares job descriptions from various career sites to how Data Scientists describe what they actually do at work. Determined the top skills currently sought after by companies. (2019).
Google and Bing search about Data Science Careers
Google and Bing search about Data Science careers to discover what companies show up high in search results and what people are saying about data science. For example, we noted that Accenture is rebranding with emphasis on Data Science and AI.
Amazon for books on Data Careers and Data Science
Last year there was only one, but now there are five. We also looked at 3-star customer reviews, 2-star reviews, and 1-star reviews to see what books people liked and didn’t like. The reviewers say that the books don’t help them when they’re new to data science, don’t help them get a job, or that the books emphasize coding too much.
Studied all research published at HBS online and Brand Awareness Surveys
We learned that people want something they can use on the job. They reported that some of the classes were too broad but they like being part of the Harvard Brand, with its rigorous application process, although it has a 97% acceptance rate. 60 % of those surveyed want something tangible when a course is complete, such as a certificate, especially when it’s from the US.
We’ve authored a number of white papers about career success in data science and about how non-technical professionals and learn data science.
What books will students and recent graduates in data science find the most helpful in fast-tracking their careers and which ones will assist business professionals the most in helping them learn and implement data science in their companies.
